"PrimeTime Fitness is aptly named. It is prime all of the time, especially when it comes to its staff who are outstanding in their expertise, the nice assortment of new, up-to-date equipment, the cleanliness of the facility and equipment, and the friendliness of both the staff and the patrons.  My wife and I were in the area for the months of January and February this year, and after looking at several other fitness facilities in the area, we decided to try PrimeTime.  We can't wait for 2010 to arrive so we can renew our memberships as well as the many friendships we made while working out there!"

Dear Members & Friends,

Author Neil Gaiman said recently, "I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're Doing Something. So that's my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make your mistakes, next year and forever."

It takes courage to step out of one's comfort zone and try something new.  Lord knows we wrote the book on that in 2015, but hopefully our decision to move from our comfort zone on Sullivan's Island to new territory in Mt. Pleasant will have a happy ending!

So why not make it a point to try something new in 2016 . . . something that takes you out of your comfort zone, maybe even something that scares you a little.  You may make a mistake, but I bet you'll learn something about yourself, you'll live a little, you'll challenge yourself, you'll change not only yourself but perhaps also a little piece of the world . . .  and in the process, you might even have a little fun!

(Staff) Member Spotlight -
"MR. JANUARY:" Charlie Cornetta

Charlie Cornetta walked into the gym one day to check us out, and liked what he saw so much that he just had to be a part of it all. This pleasant young man has joined the PrimeTime Team of trainers, and we couldn't be happier to have him! Certified as a Personal Trainer  through the W.I.T.S. program in April (which has been verified!), Charlie is eager to share his knowledge and excited to work with our members.

Since Charlie is the new kid on the block, we thought we'd quiz him on a few things.  Here's how that went down . . .

PTF:  What motivates you to get to the gym?

CC:  Seeing results has always been one of the main reasons I keep coming back. Whether it's sports related performance or just cosmetic like having more visible abs, I always want to maintain or even improve on my results.

PTF:  You've worked at other large, big-box gyms before. Needless to say, we are a little different.  What do you like the most about working out, or working, at PrimeTime so far?

CC:  My favorite thing about PrimeTime Fitness is the environment. Everyone knows each other and people here are very supportive. The small, close-knit group also means I won't be waiting a half hour for equipment like at the big chain gyms.

PTF:  Tell us about the progress you've made . . . where you came from and how far you've come!

CC:  I started getting a lot more serious about working out when I recovered from a chest surgery my senior year in high school. For 2 years I couldn't lift or play contact sports so I shrunk down to 125 lbs. Through weight lifting and proper diet I got to a healthy weight of 165 within a 2 year period

PTF:  What's your favorite form of exercise?

CC:  Personally I like old fashioned weight training. Usually 4-5 day split routine but I like to switch it up. Ideally I like to exercise at least 5 days a week.

PTF:  What do you do when you are not exercising?   Hobbies?  Work?

CC:  I love anything outdoors. From snowboarding to hanging out on the beach, I find that weather is no excuse to not enjoy the outdoors!

PTF:  Tell us about your family.

CC:  I was born in NYC where both of my parents are from . . . my dad is from Queens and my Mom is from Brooklyn. I also have a younger brother who is 22 and a student at Trident Tech. I'm Italian and Irish and I lived with my family in the Northeast until I was 18 years old

PTF:  Is there something about you that not many people know and most would be surprised by?

CC:  I have Katy Perry on all my workout playlists

PTF:  Katy Perry?!?!?!

CC:  Ha-ha, yep!

PTF:  Do you have any words of wisdom or encouragement for our members?

CC:  Consistency, consistency, consistency! If you want to accomplish anything, you have to put in the work. Even if you don't have the perfect routine, sticking to it will help you see results more than doing it only once a week.

Welcome to the team, Charlie -

we're glad to have you on board!

Coconut Oil - it's not just for recipes!

Some handy tips for using coconut oil from our own Julie Nestler

Every month we feature a yummy and healthy recipe.  This time, however, we're giving you a new kind of recipe to try!

We try to eat clean . . . making sure to fuel our workouts with healthy nutrition.  But how many of us question what we put ON our bodies?  What about the ingredients and the chemicals in our skin care products?

Below are a few of Julie's favorite DIY beauty tips using coconut oil - an item you probably either have at home, or can find easily in your local grocery store!

As a luscious body scrub

It's  wonderfully moisturizing, great for the skin, inexpensive, and blissfully absent of chemicals you can't pronounce! To make your own, melt  ½ c of coconut oil at very low heat. Pour it over 1 c of brown sugar or salt and stir well. If you have some on hand, add in five drops of your favorite essential oil or some pure vanilla extract for a scrub so fragrant you'll want to eat it.

To remove eye makeup

Yes, coconut oil even works on waterproof mascara! Put a little on a cotton ball and gently sweep it over your eyes, paying attention to your under-eyes as well. The oil does a great job breaking down waxy, inky eye makeup, and leaves the delicate area hydrated, too. Once you're done, wash your face as usual.

As a hair conditioner

Apply to wet hair, leave on for 15 minutes, wash and style as usual.

Deodorant Cream

Mix 1/4 c baking soda, 1/4 c of cornstarch or arrowroot powder, 4 tbsp of coconut oil, 10 drops of an essential oil of your choice.

Melt coconut oil.  Mix ingredients in jar.  Use under arms daily

Forget your posture . . . what about your mood?!

One thing that we ask of PrimeTimers is that you please keep your cell phone conversations in the lobby . . . nobody wants to hear your drama, your girl-talk, the latest dilemma at work, or discussion on where to meet for happy hour, when they are working out.

But did you know that we've also got your best interest in mind? We love you guys, and we don't want to see our members develop "text neck," suffer from "IPosture," or feel the pain of the "IHunch!"  According to a recent article in the New York Times,  "There are plenty of reasons to put our cellphones down now and then, not least the fact that incessantly checking them takes us out of the present moment and disrupts family dinners around the globe. But here's one you might not have considered: Smartphones are ruining our posture. And bad posture doesn't just mean a stiff neck. It can hurt us in insidious psychological ways...." Click here to read the entire December 12 article.

But please - if you choose to read the article on your mobile device, be sure to hold it at eye level . . . otherwise it may encourage poor posture that could affect your mood, your memory, and your outlook on life!
